I hit up the convention for a hot minute on Saturday. I think I was there for about 1 1/2-2 hours tops. Much busier day much to my chagrin as I wanted to get a couple of more interviews. I immediately beelined over toward where the Battlestar Galactica folks were signing. I had interviewed Michael Hogan and Aaron Douglas the previous day and REALLY wanted to chat with Luciana Carro ("Kat" on BSG). That's us in the picture above. Now you understand why I beelined toward her. She purty. Unfortunately, she was not there yet since there was a BSG panel going on. Curses.
I walked around a bit more and saw Melody Anderson. She played "Dale Arden" in the 1980 cult classic Flash Gordon. One of my favorite movies ever. Seriously. We've met at many a con and she's always quite lovely. I wasn't sure if she recognized me because of the haircut but she did! We chatted for a few and I said, "Why don't we do the interview now." She agreed and we talked for a bit about the movie. Post interview, we talked a bit more. Such a lovely and classy and intelligent woman. And wow...still so beautiful after all of these years.
After Melody, I headed back over to Luciana and she was available. As soon as I pulled the recorder out, she was pulled away for a photo op. She apologized and said she's be back in 5. 15 minutes later (not her fault), she returned but I still waited a bit due to a small line of fans that wanted to meet her. She was so gracious to them and I ended up taking pictures for them. Told her I'd start charging which I think made her feel bad. I was just joking! Finally, we got on to the interview and she was so cool. And I had no idea that she was going to be appearing in the new BSG prequel series, Caprica! Even though she was only in about 18-19 episodes of BSG, I really liked her character (though many didn't). It was almost jarring to see her in normal clothes. Sure, she's obviously stunning but in the show she was always in the pilot outfit. The 2 days I saw her at the show, she was all cute in her skirt, heels and top. She's so tiny too! I think I've found a new celebrity crush. (Collective "Awwwwwww!)
I did a quick run around again and ran into good friend and comic journalist queen, Heidi MacDonald of The Beat. Had a quick chat with artists Lauren Monardo and Stephanie O'Donnell (whom Alison Rosen and I bamboozled with our hijinks the previous day) and got to see buddy Ryan Bodenheim on my way out. I did end up purchasing a few comics. A couple from the aforementioned Ms. O'Donnell and on my way out the door, a zombie comic (yeah, yeah) caught my eye so I purchased.
A couple of more pics for you.
Allesandra Torresani ("Zoe" in Caprica). Quite the looker, this one had the fanboys drooling. Even Daniel Logan ("Young Boba Fett" in Star Wars Episode II: The Clone Wars) was not immune to her charms. At one point, he was sitting at his booth as she walked by. He tried to say something to her and she just kept walking on by. Oh Boba! You just can't catch a break.
Nichelle Nichols ("Lt. Uhura" in original Star Trek). Just exudes grace. I didn't get a chance to talk to her though.
Another funny note from Friday. Alison and I approached a table where Christian Serratos of the Twilight movie was sitting. I saw the movie but didn't recognize her. Alison neither. Alison asked her who she was in the movie and we both heard, "Andrew Lloyd Weber". I said, "You're playing Andrew Lloyd Weber?!!" She looked up at us and said, "ANGELA Weber". Oops. I think the movie would have been better if she was playing the composer.
I wont go into the logistics of the show again. Just an odd mix of old stars, wrestlers, reality show people, sports stars, etc. Artist Alley was way in the back. When are comic conventions going to start putting it up front? I'll recap the show on next week's podcast so tune in and you may hear a rant. Alison might join us in studio to give her take on it as well.
