San Diego Comic-Con: Day 2

As expected, the masses descended upon the city. Day 2 highlights.

• Only real day to sleep in, so I do. I go grab my press badge around 2pm and I was in and out (no burger pun intended!) within minutes! 
• I was in need of a haircut so went off and found a cool spot. Got the locks chopped! 
• Met up with pal Melissa for a quick bite and ran into friends Buzz and Jenny Robb at the Omni. 
• Melissa and I hit preview night when the doors open at 6pm and managed to do the entire floor in 3 hours. Ran by and saw lots of friends (too numerous to mention) and found some great stuff to hopefully check out later. It wasn't that crazy as it had been in previous years. I heard someone say they had limited tickets to preview night this time around. Still, pretty busy!
• Madly trying to organize some eats with various peeps and finally hooked up with my pals Brea Grant, Zane Grant and company for some good hot dogs and beer! 
• Off for more drinks! (Sensing a theme?) My west coast correspondent and friend, Maria Bernal-Silva, and I iron out our interview schedule. It's pretty nuts but exciting! 
• Bed time for bonzo as I drift off around 5am. 

San Diego Comic-Con: Day 1

I arrived yesterday to chill and hang in San Diego. The calm before the storm. Some quick highlights.

• I landed around 1:30 pm. Mad props to Dan and Christina for picking me up at the airport and taking me straight to In N Out! 
• Check into Hard Rock hotel where I'm staying with my pal Ben Templesmith. Sweet room. 
• Met up with friends at The Field pub. John Layman, Ben McCool, David Baron and Nate Cosby all joined in on tipping some back. 
• Back to the room to record a special SDCC themed podcast with Ben Templesmith and Phil Jackson. (See previous post). 
• Dinner with Ben and Phil. Oysters, mahi mahi, steak, champagne...deelish!
• More drinks and then a quick check out of Trickster. Which was a great set up! Ran into more friends like the Francavillas, Tony Lee and Heidi MacDonald. 
• Yet even more drinks and finally calling it a night around 2:30am. 

The madness begins tomorrow!

Jimmy Aquino Attacks San Diego Comic-Con!

I'm heading off to San Diego in about an hour for the big annual San Diego Comic-Con representing my podcast COMIC NEWS INSIDER! I'll be there through Monday and then in L.A. for a few days after. I have some great interviews lined up and am part of the press roundtables for some of my fave shows like Torchwood: Miracle Day, Spartacus, Chuck, Fringe, etc. Great solo interviews with many others as well. It's gonna be crazy busy but lots of fun. 

If I see you there and I'm running by, please don't be offended. I'm probably rushing off to an interview. Or I just don't like you. Then you should be offended. One of the two. 

And, if you're in L.A., hit me up. I've got a pretty packed schedule but maybe you could join in on a night of drinks. 

I'll be recording the podcast later Tuesday night with pals Ben Templesmith and Ben McCool and perhaps some others. Sort of a pre-SDCC survival guide, things to check out, etc. And then stay tuned the following week for all of those awesome interviews!

Hey everyone! You know how much I hate when people don’t reply to an email/text/etc. I believe there is always time for a quickie. Sure, on occasion, there are events they may take you off the grid or what not. I have one coming up. You may have heard me mention San Diego Comic-Con a few times. Okay, a lot! I’m heading there in a few hours. And will be hitting L.A. for a few days after. So consider me incommunicado for about 8 days. Just like the miracle of Hannukah! 

I will be on Twitter, of course. And will do my best to reply to a message here or there but please don’t hold it against me if I don’t get back to you promptly. I may just be too busy hanging out with my famous friends to bother with a mere peon like you. Just joshing! 

OR AM I?!!! (Okay, I am). 

 

San Diego Comic-Con: The Madness Begins

Most of you know that I will be attending San Diego Comic-Con next week. I'll be representing my podcast COMIC NEWS INSIDER, of course! For the past 2-3 weeks, the PR has been rolling in and my interview schedule has been filling up. As I've said on the podcast, I tend to get more film/TV interviews at SDCC. It's the rare chance that I get a chance to interview/meet these big stars each year. I'll still be getting several comic book interviews as well. 

Trying to put the interview schedule together is maddening. As I am getting 50+ emails/day with requests to be part of roundtables, 1:1 interviews, attend panels, etc. And once I establish my show or they remember me from previous years, then it's emailing back and forth to set up times. And often, those times will conflict with another interview you are trying to set up. So it's back to emailing to reschedule. 

It's funny how some publicists get back to you right away and others may either miss you in the shuffle or deem you unworthy of their client. I was in really good (so I thought) with one major studio. They included me in roundtables each year, sent me screeners, assets, etc. Suddenly this year, I don't even get the courtesy of a reply. Oh well. It is disturbing as it's one of my favorite shows, but alas, not to be I guess. (No, I wont tell you which studio). 

Still, I'm grateful to those who have been so gracious to me and have gone out of their way to accommodate. As always, Warner Bros. TV is outstanding with getting me involved in their shows. And mad props to Starz for getting me in on those Torchwood and Spartacus press rooms. Many others have been great and I'm so appreciative. While I certainly love chatting with the stars, I also do it in hopes that the podcast listeners get a big kick out of it all! 

And just so I'm not overwhelmed, I have a little bit of help. Again this year, CNI correspondent Maria Bernal-Silva, will be helping out with many interviews. I may try to recruit a few other friends as well. 

My schedule will continue to change/grow even as SDCC rolls on next week. I'm slowly going mad but am anticipating it all with excitement! So, if I'm negligent in getting back to you over the next few weeks, you know why.

Comic News Insider Episode 343 - CNI One-Shot! Torchwood: Miracle Day Conference Call w/ John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Alexa Havins and Russell T. Davies

Jimmy was part of a conference call with some of the stars of the upcoming Starz series,Torchwood: Miracle Day.  On the call were cast members John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper) and Alexa Havins (Esther Drummond). They were joined by series creator/showrunner Russell T. Davies. So you know, conference call interviews work like this: A group of reporters are given a number to call in and are put in an automated queue. When your name pops up, the moderator (or sometimes electronic moderator) will introduce you like. "Next up we have Jimmy Aquino from Comic News Insider". While you are asking your question, the interviewees can hear you and so can every other person on the queue. But no one else can be heard until they are patched in. What you will hear is the entire call with questions from reporters from big outlets like E! and MTV to podcasters like me, bloggers, etc. Jimmy's questions come in around 30-40 minutes in. 

WARNING! There will be some minor spoilers as everyone had already seen at least the first episode or like Jimmy, the first 3.
