So here's the deal. A lot of you have been wondering about if I was in a flood zone and why I haven't evacuated, etc. And many thanks for all of the kind offers to stay. I'm NOT in an evacuation zone. The problem is the logistics of my apartment. I'm on the ground level. Plus, when you open the gate to the townhouse I share w/ my landlord (they have the top 3 floors), you have to walk DOWN 3 steps to my front door. There's a tiny drain there but that's it. Ergo, the VERY REAL chance of flooding from torrential rain.
I do appreciate all of the advice and offers but I do know the basics, kiddies. (i.e. stacking things up, unplugging things, etc). I have TONS of boxes stacked up on top of one another and not enough furniture to stack said boxes and save them. Well, at least the ones on the bottom.
I'm not going anywhere for the next 2 days. I plan on staying here and fighting with Mother Nature. If it looks like it may start flooding, I'm going to do my best to sweep the water away with whatever I've got. Bucket it off. Throw down towels. Whatever.
As many of you know, I'm moving next week after securing a great new apartment in Washington Heights ON THE 6TH FLOOR (sigh...5 days away). The expense of a move is rough enough besides adding the replacement costs of any damaged goods.
No pity party here though. I'll get through it fine. I'm not in any danger personally. (At least, hopefully not). Just the materialistic worry of losing things, possibly dealing with the cleaning up water damage, etc.
Wish me luck. Tomorrow, you'll see me shouting at the sky as King Lear in the picture above:
