Looks like my "Operation Eat Everything In My Apartment Before I Move" has backfired. I now only have 1 can of tuna in my cupboards and maybe some cereal. And with the impending hurricane, I'm gonna need at least something else if I'm stuck in all day/night tomorrow. Guess I better see if I can grab something tonight!
Looks like NYC is shutting down the subways tomorrow at NOON. Not sure when they'll be back up. This storm may even affect my move next week (Wednesday or Thursday) but hopefully not. I'm a bit worried about my current apartment. While I'm in a "Zone C" in NYC (a non-evacuation zone), I do live on a ground level apartment. I have 3 small steps down to my front door and worry that area may flood over & into my apartment. Crapola.
I grew up with hurricanes living in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. It was actually cool to the locals because it gave us waves. I wasn't an avid surfer but did enjoy it with my friends. Hurricane season brought the best waves and on occasion we'd be idiots and try to go out in it. Since we lived in the beach area, we often evacuated to a friend's house further in town every year whenever a big hurricane was on the way. I distinctly remember it was often during Labor Day weekend and we would all just stay up watching The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon. We got lucky and never got hit too hard. I was living in Jacksonville when Miami got nailed from Hurricane Hugo though and that was pretty scary.
I never imagined I'd have to deal with a hurricane living in NYC. Then again, we had a bit of an earthquake (albeit a minor one) earlier in the week and people may not know that NYC is on a major fault line. Let's hope we don't have any other major natural disasters in the near future.
I know the news tends to over blow (no pun intended) things but this storm is looking serious. Not sure what is going on with work yet but will find out today. If we close, then I'll be shutting myself in the apartment. Hopefully, power wont go out.
Stay safe, my fellow Gothamites. We'll get through this like we always do.
