MTV VMAs 2011 Recap

It's time for the MTV Video Music Awards. You know, the one time MTV pretends to still care about music? I was going to live tweet the awards but realize how annoying that is so I'm just gonna do a big recap. Because you care so much. 

1. Pre-show. Who are all of these new "VJs", if you can call them that any more. Sway is the only one I recognized. And the others were a bit off. 
2. Poor Jessie J. She fell offstage and broke her foot! But she's the house band for the awards. Pretty dope. She rocks it! (Boo to MTV for cutting to commercial during her first number). 
3. Lady Gaga opens the awards looking like Ralph Macchio in The Outsiders. (Look it up). Just plain weird. I get it. She's artsy and theatrical. But hey, she is an amazing musician and can belt that shit out! 
4. I love Britney Spears more than your average bear. But really? She wins best pop video? Did she even have an album out? 
5. Jay-Z and Kanye killed it. (Camera pans to Bieber after when everyone is applauding/screaming and he's just sitting there. Staring blankly. Uh...show some respect/support to your betters, kiddo.)
6. I get that Jessie J is "playing off to commercial" but I'd rather see her whole set than this entire show. 
7. Oh, look. Chris Brown is nominated a few times AND he performs. And a lame performance at that. I keep forgetting that we forgave him for beating up Rihanna. 
8. I thought Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez were the same person. Alas, no. They appeared together. Unless it was CGI!! 
9. The Kevin Hart bits in between were pretty funny. 
10. Adele. Just lovely. Amazing voice. And so adorable at the end. She actually looked like she was nervous. 
11. Did I mention Jessie J as the houseband is better than the whole show? Besides her own stuff, she does covers (at least we hear about 20 seconds of it before going to commercial) and they sound better than the original! 
12. Britney (who looks awesome) gets an icon award from Gaga (who is still in her man-drag from the opening number). Britney looks frightened. Haha. 
13. So, Beyonce' is preggers as she announces it before her number by saying "I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me". I loves me some B-Money, but that was groan worthy. 
14. I dig that Jared Leto is a rock star now and isn't acting, but what the crack was he wearing? 
15. Gonna sound like an old fogey, but who's Tyler the Creator? I stay abreast of modern music (especially hip hop) but he's off my radar. 
16. Nice tribute to Amy Winehouse. People forget Russell Brand was a heavy drug/alcohol addict for years. Besides being a friend of hers, he can speak from the heart on it. Bruno Mars is brilliant. 
17. Again, Jessie J heading out to commercial. Stay on her. SHE'S THE SHOW! 
18. I love Katy Perry. There. I said it. 
19. I really like Lil' Wayne. But stop the fucking auto tune. YOU'RE NOT A SINGER. (That goes for you too, Kanye). If the new album is all like that, then sorry. I didn't buy Kanye's 808's & Heartbreak album for the same reason. 
20. Did I mention that Jessie J is awesome? Well, it's a fact!

Overall...just not a great show any more like it used to be. Some good performances and crazy appearances, but that's it. Maybe if MTV actually showed more videos it might matter more.
