Wednesday is the day EVERYONE starts arriving at Comic Con. Be it because they are here for preview night or just that they want to get in as the madness arrives before the official opening on Thursday. I actually slept in a bit (if you call 6 hours a bit) as it would be my only chance this week.
My pal and fellow friend in new media, Sharlene, was having lunch at The Broken Yolk with pals so I joined them. Soon, my Cali girls Melissa, Kim and Christina and some time correspondents showed so I left with them and we hung for a bit. I started running into all sorts. Had a nice chat with Darwyne Cooke, CB Cebulski came over to say hi, talked to Paul Cornell and Richard Starkings for a bit...and those were just when I went to the Omni bar to grab a bite with the girls. I decided to head over to the convention to see if I could get my press badge early. Sure enough. BAM. In and out in under a minute.
I came by to where I'm staying and chilled for a bit before heading out to Preview Night around 5:30. I did my annual run through. I do a quick walk row by row to see where everyone is and if anything catches my eye. A LOT did. And for a preview night, it was so crowded. Lots of angry toy collectors carrying giant bags of some collectible that they waited in line for hours for came barrelling through several times. What are they so angry about? They got the toys they wanted! Sheesh! I said hi to way too many people to mention. The clusterfuck of the Hollywood area was already annoying to get through. Man, people sure do love anything free. Even if it's just a poster or flyer.
By 8:30, I had done the whole floor. Skipping just a few rows here and there in the cluster areas. My pal Cass got in so we did a little Nobu action and hung with the lovely and talented Amanda Conner, Frank Tieri and others. Hit The Field and then Trickster. Trickster is in a different location this year and a bit hard to find. Smaller space as well but still same great idea! And as per usual, the night ends at the Hyatt. Called it an early one at 2am and was in bed by 3am. Big interviews the next day!
