Tomorrow night, I'll be recording the "Favorites of 2014" for my podcast COMIC NEWS INSIDER. I'll have a couple of friends over to help out. We'll be picking our favorite comic books, TV shows, films, animated series, video games, etc.
A few random favorites as a sneak peak in no particular order. The Shadow Hero by Gene Luen Yang, An Age of License by Lucy Knisley, Hannibal, Outlander, Over the Garden Wall, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Frozen Free Fall, Emi Lenox, Noelle Stevenson, Gotham Academy, Afterlife With Archie, Heroes Con, TCAF, Big Hero 6, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and more!
What are some of your picks?
As I'm sporadically blogging, I've fallen back into what I used to like doing. Giving you my opinion on things in the entertainment world via a kind of review. Hey. You like something, you want to share with the world and maybe find like-minded people. Here are some quick things for you to check out if you haven't.
I hope that gives you some new things to try in your life. Be adventurous! You're welcome.
If you know me then you know what a hip hop head I am. And you also know what a big Anglophile I am. Combine the 2 and you get Stormzy! I listen to a lot of BBC radio and podcasts from the UK. I first heard UK based Stormzy last year doing one of BBC Radio 1 Xtra's segments called "Fire in the Booth" hosted by DJ Charlie Sloth. He killed it.
See? KILLED IT! He's released an EP that is also available here in the U.S. called Dreamer's Disease. The breakout single is "Not That Deep". It has one of the best lines in a rap that I've heard in a long time.
"Your post code don't make you a gangsta. You're not bad, your area is."
Check it out.
Let me know what you think of Stormzy! And check out some other UK based hip hop artists while you're at it. Yes, we started it all but there are some great hip hop musicians worldwide.
You must watch Agent Carter starring Haley Atwell. It is fantastic! For those that don't know, Atwell played the same character in the first Captain America film. Then they made a short film called Agent Carter that did really well. And now this 8 episode mini-series. Let's hope it does well enough to get a full series!
It takes place after the events of the first Cap film in 1946 and boy howdy is there a lot of sexism on display. Peggy Carter don't take no guff from no man though! She goes even more undercover to help out Howard Stark and kicks some serious ass. Atwell is so perfect for this role from the characterization to the physicality to the sexy too!
Go watch it now and let's get this thing another series!
Reviews: Abigail and the Snowman #1, Feathers #1, SHIELD Vol 4 #1, Star Trek/Planet of the Apes: The Primate Directive #1, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1, Agent Carter
Last minute schedule changes forces Jimmy to fly solo. But he gives his views on some comic, TV and film goodness! He's happy to see friends succeeding with Grace Helbig's show getting greenlit by E! and Becky Cloonan being named one of the top 5 comic creators to watch by The Hollywood Reporter. Oh, and that Ant-Man trailer. News includes: IDW Publishing acquires Top Shelf Productions, The Scarlett Witch/Quicksilver will be showcased in new Uncanny Avengers comic, Gambit film gets a release date, Scarlett Johansson cast as lead in live action Ghost in the Shell movie, the "Rogue Cut" of X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released this summer and Netflix announces release date of Marvel shows. Leave your iTunes comments! 5 stars and nothing but love!

Thanks for listening!
The new year is here and I have accomplished my #1 resolution. I woke up the next day. Great start to 2015! But here are some ones I will strive to attain:
These are all super realistic resolutions that I know I can accomplish. Look out 2015! I will conquer you with these great resolutions! Happy New Year!
Old childhood friend Debbie posted this picture of me dressed as Adam Ant for a Halloween dance. Think I was around 11/12 yrs old? Funny thing is…when she posted it, I didn’t notice I was in costume/makeup until later. As a kid, I loved Adam Ant/Adam and the Ants. I dressed up as him for Halloween 2 years running!
I’m guessing I was going for the Ant Rap/Prince Charming makeup and Friend or Foe outfit.
Here's wishing everyone a safe and happy new year! And hope you had a super fun night last night ringing it all in. I had dinner with roomie Joe at one of my favorite local restaurants Vinateria. Wine/Beverage director Gabriela made sure we got a table even though they were booked and really made sure we had a great time. I did the wine pairing with my dinner and she brought over a couple of wines with almost each course! Amazing! Started off with stromboli and parsnip soup for the amuse bouche, on to warm foie gras for appetizer, then a perfectly cooked strip loin for entree and finished off with a peanut butter/chocolate dessert. All while consuming about 5-6 glasses of wine as well as an amaro to finish things off. Phew! Delicous and filling.
Home to chill for a bit before heading off to friend Emily's place for a cozy NYE bash. Brought some more sparkling wine and drank lots of champagne. She did a cool thing where we wrote down our wishes for 2015, burned them leaving the ashes in a jar and then she released them into the winds outside after midnight.
SHE WILL BE MINE!
Kept it pretty low key and was home by 1am. Whee! I hope you all didn't over do it and are paying for it today! Have a great day and hope your 2015 is starting off with a bang!
