Where is Daredevil? I actually met a girl yesterday who said that out loud. And she kind of meant it. I mentioned that we were in the HK. Hell's Kitchen. Without a beat, she looked up to the roof tops and yelled, "Where's Daredevil?!" Besides being hot that a chick said that, it was funny as hell. For those not in the know....Daredevil is a comic book superhero in the Marvel Comics universe. (The universe with Spider-man, The X-men, Fantastic 4, Hulk, Avengers, etc.) He is a blind lawyer named Matt Murdock by day and a ninja-esque crime fighting vigilante at night. Hell's Kitchen is his home. It's under his protection. You don't mess around or he'll take you down! He's a glorified Westie! (Look it up, bitches!)
When this girl said "Where's Daredevil?!", she followed it up with a fanboyish barrage of "what ifs?". "What if he really existed? I want to look up and see him looming over!" Things like that. I gotta say, being a big ol comic book and sci fi geek, I often think the same thing. How cool would that be if Superheroes were around. You passed a dark alley and saw Batman beating the crap out of some crook. Looked up and saw Spider-man webbing some thugs to a lamp post. Witnessed Superman flying overhead. Watched Wonder Woman, The Invisible Woman (Fantastic Four), Storm (X-Men) and Betty & Veronica (Archie Comics) all make out while naked in a hot tub. Okay...that last one I probably imagine too often. I'm lonely. Hold me.
And besides. It's all just a bunch of harmless and silly fantasizing. There is no Daredevil. I would have seen him on the roofs when I patrol as The Batman. Wait...did I just super out myself? Crap. Good thing criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot. At least I hope so.
Don't be surprised if you are looking up in Hell's Kitchen late at night. You might just see me. Watching. Always watching. Next time, leave your curtains open so I can watch better. You have a pretty bath robe. And you give me happy Bat-mite.
'Nuff said.
Elektra: So, what do you do, Mr. Murdoch.
Matt Murdoch: I'm a lawyer.
Elektra: Wow, I've never seen a blind lawyer before.
Matt Murdoch: That's funny, neither have I.
