Nacho Libre. Jack Black's new film. I caught it the other night. It was completely ridiculous and goofy and over the top and crazy and nonsensical and funny! While not completely gut bustingly funny, it certainly kept a constant grin on my face. Some reviewers are saying it's racist. Puh-leaze! It's a caricature of Mexicans. And it's funny. People are way too sensitive nowadays. If people think real Mexicans walk around talking English with bad accents and using only a handful of Spanish, then they're stupid.
Jack Black got a chance to shine as per usual. Being weird and in your face resulting in much hysterical laughter. He even got to do a little Tenacious D, Mexican style. Bursting out in song and riffing. I almost wet myself. Actually, I did. Hector Jimenez as the skinny sidekick was quite funny too. His buttered corn eating and nimble acrobats added to the funny. However, he wasn't the best sidekick in the movie. It was the nun played by Ana de la Reguera.
Need I say more? Every time she was on screen, I became mesmerized. Yes, she had some funny, but her beauty was ridiculous. Growing up Catholic, of course, I felt guilty for wanting to get it on with a nun. If she was a nun at my church growing up, I would have been in confession thrice daily. And by confession, I mean doing things that would require more confession. Those oh so onanistic activities.
I mean, did you look at her? Clearly, my new star crush. Me encanta Ana de la Reguera!
Go see it. Laugh. Enjoy. Then go see it again just for her. Just get the big bucket of popcorn.
