What is up with people not being able to admit they did something wrong? I've said it before. I think more of a person who can own up to their faults then someone who constantly tries to defend them. This being said...
Now, I'm not a big "comment" type person on the interweb. Unless it's a friend's site. Or a midget porn site. Don't hate! I just think people get all big and bad and say things they don't normally say from the safety of their computers. On occasion, I'll see something and feel I have to comment. Which I did recently.
There was an article about recent comic book awards shows. It was mentioned that many creators don't show up for them. It praised a recent show suggesting how it was more lively and fun than previous years. I was at those awards briefly and I agreed. But, I went on to mention another awards show I attended a couple of times and how boring they are and how many creators don't show up due to the slow pace and lack of anything exciting. I wasn't attacking, just saying. I also mentioned how a friend sent some ideas to the awards director to help spice it up, but seemed to be shot down. As if they were stuck in their ways and didn't care. Once again, just saying with hope, that the shows need to be more fun and shorter. Me opining and such.
Well, I revisit the site and the director of said awards show responded! Oops! Now, I certainly wasn't attacking this person directly, but they seemed to take it that way and got all defensive. On how the awards get more exciting every year with celebrity creators as presenters, etc. Even questioning if I ever attended. Wow. I didn't mention names, and I still won't. But, I KNOW celebrity creators who have stated that they hate that show and only go out of a feeling of obligation. And sure, a celebrity creator will show up to present. That probably means they can bust out right after and not stay for the duration! The times I went, I was bored to tears. Or naps.
I guess I can see how this person misinterpreted my comments and felt like I was attacking. I even commented again apologizing if it was misconstrued. But, it would have been nice to hear them admit some fault in the programming. Instead of just blindly praising it. Hell, I've run a lot of stuff from bars, to restaurants, to theaters, to students, to shows, etc. There was always something that wasn't right. Rarely perfect. I just wish this person could have said something like, "Yes, we need to work on making the awards for accessible to the public and professionals alike. We'll get there and take any suggestions, etc."
BUT, NOOOOOOOOOOO! All defensive and shit on how brilliant the show is going. Whatever.
Do me a favor. Admit your wrong once in your life. When you are wrong. You might actually be able to improve something.
Bitches.
