The Who Wants To Be A Superhero finale aired last night. This ended the short 6 part series that followed 11 hopeful wannabe superheroes. Stan Lee, the legend himself, acted as host, judge, jury and executioner. (Certainly not an actor. Yikes!) Each week, contestants were put through various challenges and Stan would decide who would be eliminated. And, that was it. Pretty simple and straight forward. There has been much debate over the validity of the "contestants" and the show. Which was clearly scripted in most parts. And, some of the wannabees were struggling actors. That didn't bother me much. It wasn't like they were famous.
Colorful characters with colorful names like Lemuria, Creature, Major Victory, Fat Momma, Feedback, Monkey Woman, Cell Phone Girl, Nitro, Levity, Iron Enforcer, and Ty'Veculus.
This show was so ridiculous and campy and completely ludicrous, yet oddly compelling. Like watching a train wreck. Yet, in a fun way. Can a train wreck be in a fun way? When things took a "serious" turn, it was completely laughable. And, no disrespect to the contestants and their stories or family tragedies or whatnot, but there was more crying in this show than a Miss America pageant. THERE'S NO CRYING IN SUPEHERO-ING!
One of the contestants, Lemuria, agreed to be on our podcast, COMIC NEWS INSIDER, but we just never got it together. And, after many an email trying to set it up, she stopped replying. I assumed it was because they had just taped the show where she was eliminated. I think I was right. Too bad, Lemuria! Our listeners could have hounded Sci-Fi to get you on the finale! You'll always be my superhero. Of course, your costume is just boots and your powers are...of the flesh. Boo ya!
S P O I L E R S!
Had to put that up there for those of you who may not have seen the finale yet and actually care. Now, on to the finale!
The last 2 remaining heroes were Fat Momma and Feedback. I didn't think Fat Momma would make it this far. While all of them were pretty campy, she took the cake. Literally. And she ate it too. Literally. Actually, the donut, but that's just semantics. Not literally.
Feedback was going to be the obvious winner. Like they'd really give it to Fat Momma? The winner gets a comic book and sci-fi movie made. While I can see a comic book of all of them possible, the movie might not work. In the little mini movies they made at the end of the finale, she proved she wasn't one of the actors in question. Of course, Feedback could have changed his name to Over Actor, but that's besides the point.
After a stunt challenge that Fat Momma stepped out of since she's....well....Fat Momma...they moved on to a private sit down with Stan. More tears and crying and inspirations and blah blah blah. Get to the winner!
Finally, they announce the winner and it is indeed Feedback. I was happy. Through all of his crying and over reacting, he did seem like he really wanted it. And hey, he gets a comic book and movie made about his character! As Stan Lee put it, he gets "immortality!" That is, if anyone reads the comic or sees the Sci-Fi movie. Have you read Stan's writing lately. Suckage. And have you seen an original Sci-Fi movie ever? Major suckage! Still, rock on Feedback!
As Stan Lee would say: "Excelsior!" or is it.."'Nuff Said!"...or..."Avengers Assemble!"...or maybe..."Where are my Depends?"
Here's hoping this show is a huge success and there is a Who Wants To Be A Superhero 2.
With contestants like this. Stay tuned, True Believers!
