Zombies rock. They always have. And lately there's been some good zombie stuff going on. Best zombie film in the past few years has been Shaun of the Dead. You know I'm right. 28 Days Later did a nice job of trying to reinvent the genre. Wow. It's a genre? Huh.
And the comic industry has noticed. Well, one person has. Robert Kirkman wrote the seemingly out of nowhere idea that became Marvel Zombies. I'll admit. I didn't pick it up at first. But, my friend, Blair Butler, swears by it. And she's a hot female cable TV celebrity! So, when the trade was released, I got it. Delicious dead superheroes everywhere! It was ridiculous and fun. I'm sure they'll do a soft cover edition in the future, but the hardcover is worth every penny. Pick it up!
Another great zombie comic is also by Kirkman. The Walking Dead is more of a tale of survival than it is about the zombies. Thanks to Blair again for this recommendation. Here, they are the stereotypical slow moving, dim witted beings. Still, they are a large force of the world's population. The book follows a group of survivors just trying to get by. It's a harrowing tale of family, friendship, loyalty, trust, and living. The "hook" of the book is: In a world ruled by the dead, we are forced to finally start living."
This is a great, great read. In current monthly comic book form, issue #30 was just released. You can catch up like I'm doing and get the trade paperbacks. 4 volumes are out covering issues #1-#24. I literally devoured the 1st 2 trades and am voraciously ready to jump on the next 2. Get this book. You'll thank me later. If anything, it's a good survival guide to have if ever the world is plagued by zombies. Hey, you never know.
Another big zombie event is the video game, Dead Rising, exclusively for the Xbox 360. Which I don't have. I've seen reviews and game play for this and I want to play! Basically, you're dropped off in a mall and you just use whatever is around you to plow through zombies. Someone buy me an Xbox 360 so I can play! My birthday is coming up. Well, December 9th is right around the corner. No? Then how about for Halloween? Apropos. Zombies. No? Fine! See if I help you when the zombies attack.
Remember, if your loved ones become zombies, then you have to take them out! They aren't dead. They're undead.
Gotta run. Getting hungry....for...
BRAINS!!!!!
