Hot Girls Read Comics Too

Copy_of_melissa_dawn_supergirl_largIt used to be a rare site to see a woman in a comic book shop. Not so any more! Allow me to regale the beauty I encountered years ago.

About 10 years ago, I worked very briefly in a comic book store. Comic Relief was my comic shop of choice at the time. Located in the former A & S Plaza (now Manhattan Mall), it was a convenient midtown location. The manager, Brian, was this really nice guy. At first, he thought I was an actor of some celebrity, but just couldn't figure it out. I told him I was an actor, but not famous. Yet. We used to chat it up a lot and he was always cool to me. I was waiting tables full time and making phat bank.

One day, Brian asks me if I wanted to work there during the holiday season. I didn't need the money or the job, but he promised perks of free books, first dibs on specials, discounts, etc. I figured it could be fun. Only 1 or 2 days a week and not long shifts. So, I agreed.

As mentioned, not many females came in unless they were mom's looking for stuff for the kids. A few girls here and there. And one hottie. Stephanie. Petite, brunette, busty and cute as hell. Just like I like 'em! She would come in every Wednesday to get her books. I'd walk around with her and we'd flirt the entire time. And, she was a big Batman fan, just like me. Sweet! I'll dress up as Bats, she can be Catwoman and we can start "fighting crime". We always ended our weekly visits with a big flirty smile and a "See you next week!" This went on for a month or so and I thought it might be time to ask her out. She seemed into it and all.

We only knew each other at the store, so didn't know much about each other. She knew my last name, both places I worked at, what comics I liked, music, etc. I knew she was hot. We'd make a perfect couple!

I come in Wednesday for work and Brian pulls me aside. "Dude, I have to talk to you about Stephanie." Okay. Cool. What? She's been asking about me? Nice. He continues, "Dude, she really likes you. A lot!" Sweet! I am so in there. He goes on, "But.."

Uh-oh. He goes on to tell me that she really digs me, but is conflicted. She has been in and out of a relationship and possibly getting back into it with her boyfriend. I am a nice distraction, but if she is going to work things out with him, she just cant have the complication and confusion of liking someone else. Wow. Pretty specific. But, she digs me! Woo hoo! Still, kind of lame at the same time.

She comes in next week. A-w-k-w-a-r-d. She's getting her books, and I leave her alone. She glances over a couple of times. I finally go over to her. "Listen you jerk! You KNOW you want some Jimmy Jam!"

Okay, I didn't do that. I just went up and told her it's all good and to not worry about it. I'm flattered she digs me and obviously, I dig her too. But, will not pursue out of respect. She was cool and said she wanted to hang, but just didn't feel right about it. I ended the conversation with telling her that if she figures things out and wants to hang, she knows where to find me.

She looked at me with those big brown eyes, and kissed me like she was diabetic and my tongue was the insulin.

Okay, that didn't happen either. It's how I like to remember it though, so shut it!

About a month later, I stopped working there and eventually the shop closed down about 6 months later. Randomly, we ran into each other many months later at another comic book store. We caught up for a few minutes, but things were different. I was with my girl and I think she was still with that guy. My girl went over and kicked her ass. The fanboys went crazy!

Yeah. Didn't happen. We said good-bye and as I left, I turned back. There she was watching me leave. A tear in her eye, clutching a Batman comic and dreaming of what could have been. Or maybe I just remember it that way.

Stars & Strippers

Picture_105We all know my love of Hustler Club. To be fair, I don't go as often as my reputation suggests. Usually, a birthday or friend in town, etc. I've probably been 4 times in the past year. And like a lot of them are "working their way through college" and are named "Porsche" or "Candy" or "Elektra"...I often don't tell the truth. I get the "Are you in a band" line more so than others because of my look. I know it's a common line, but I always say yes. I'm in a band called Planetary (a joke because my friend draws a comic book of the same name) and am the lead singer and play guitar.

Each time over the past year that I have been, I ran into the same smoking hot girl. Ridiculous dancer. The kind that can climb that 30 foot pole and slide down. We got to talking on my first visit. I tell her I'm in a band. She says she is trying to start a music career too. Sings rock, etc. I figure I'll never see her again. Next couple of times, I do.

I was there pretty recently and she saw me. She came and talked to me for about 30 minutes. Telling me all about her budding music career and asked about mine. Of course, I said things were fine. Then, she says I should come play a track for her. Uh oh. Damn it! I can't play guitar! Then, somehow, she mentions being Irish and Filipino. WTF? I thought I had told her I was and she remembered. I tell her that and she freaks. In a good way. She says, "Oh, you're definitely playing on my track now!" Uh oh. Here I am. Having a hot stripper ask me to jam with her. And I have to make excuses of how busy I am because I lied.

Anyone wanna give me a quick guitar lesson?

FHM 100 Sexiest Women

Jessica_albaAnd the winner is...

JESSICA ALBA!

She garnered the #1 spot on both the US and UK lists. That's some sexy! And I whole heartedly agree. Long have I..uh..longed for Ms. Alba.

While I don't agree with some of the placements of some girls, they're both still great lists overall. Though, I noticed some omissions on the US list.

Elizadushkutopless02Eliza Dushku.

Perhaps best known for playing "Faith" on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. She's been doing more movies, but hasn't had anything steady in awhile. Doesn't mean I've forgotten about her!

I better see her on this list next year.

Or else.

Isla_fisherIsla Fisher.

I couldn't believe she was left off the UK list. And, with her success in Wedding Crashers and recent appearance in other American films, you'd think she'd be on the US list as well.

Alas. Not to be. Is it her marriage to Sascha Baron Cohen aka "Borat" aka "Ali G"?

Once again, I expect this to be rectified next year.

Many other women I love on both lists. But, my new favorite celeb crush.

Keeley_hazellKeeley_hazell3Keeley_hazell2Keeley Hazel.

She is #2 o the UK list and #61 on the US list. Haven't heard of her, have you? I heard of her some time last year. Can't remember why. Maybe one of my UK friends told me about her.

Her blurb in the UK magazine: Miss Hazell’s jaw-dropping figure has literally taken the world by storm - she’s more searched for online by the yanks than David Beckham. Following her infamous ‘independent film’, the rumour mills are all pointing to Hollywood.
Her blurb in the US magazine: Britain’s greatest export made a splash on American shores this year when her sex tape leaked onto the Internet. “I love America!” she told FHM last year. “England is like a Little America because everything seems to originate there. You gave us Pizza Hut. I love Pizza Hut!”

If she loved Jabba the Hut, I'd love him too! Oh, that sex tape? Look it up, bitches! I ain't your porn pimp! But, I feel for you. Photos of her sans top in the jump. Enjoy.

You're welcome.

Taxes Done!!

That's how daunting doing taxes is for me. Every year, I procrastinate. This year, no different. Actually, the past 2 years no different. Make that the past 4 years. Make that....

You get the idea.

Anyway, I always get money back so I wasn't all that worried about it. And just like that, I'll be getting some phat bankage back. Who knew claiming sleep as a write off would work? And eating? And even breathing! I found every loop hole. And now I'm getting back a gajillion dollars! Woo hoo!

Hopefully, the IRS wont read this and audit me.

Crap. I really shouldn't type this stuff out for all to read. If only I knew how to delete after I type. One day. I'll learn.

See you next April 15th! 18th! 22nd! 30th! Uh...some time next year!

Spider-Man: The Musical

Amazingspiderman050For those of you who listen to my podcast, Comic News Insider, then you heard us report this news. Yes, there will be a Spider-Man musical. And are there some heavy hitters behind it! From official sources:

Marvel Studios has confirmed that plans are underway to produce a Broadway musical based on Marvel's ever popular Superhero, Spider-Man. Produced by Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle, Martin McCallum, Marvel Entertainment and SONY Pictures Entertainment (billing in formation), the musical will be directed by Tony Award-winner Julie Taymor with U2's Bono and The Edge creating new music and lyrics for the project. A reading is scheduled to take place this summer. No dates for a Broadway opening have been confirmed at this time.

The AEA 29-hour rehearsed reading will begin rehearsals on 7/2/07 in NYC. The reading itself will take place 7/12/07 and 7/13/07.

Quite an interesting cast breakdown. Also, official and stuff:

SEEKING:

[PETER PARKER] Male, late teens to early 20's, Caucasian. A bullied, high school senior in Queens passionate about all things Science, and infatuated with Mary Jane Watson to the point of near-paralysis. Earnest, ethical, and frequently relying on his wry, self-effacing sense of humor to get out of scrapes, he was bitten by a genetically altered spider in Norman Osborn's Lab soon before graduating and becomes after trials and tragedy a crime-fighting superhero. He struggles daily to balance the responsibilities his dual identity demands, as well as with the constant temptation to exploit the powers he has inherited. The burden of being a superhero, his guilt for his role in his uncle?s death, as well as his debilitating crush on Mary Jane all weigh heavily upon him. Great pop/rock voice.

[MARY JANE] Female, late teens to early 20s, Caucasian. Sweet, intelligent, affectionate, compassionate, with a well-developed, wry sense of humor. Her power, her luminosity, arises from the unadorned simplicity and groundedness of her presence. She is desperate to get out of Queens, to get away from her abusive father, and make a name for herself as an actress. Great pop/rock voice.

[ARACHNE] Female, 20-35 years old, any ethnicity. A beautiful, boastful young woman turned into a spider for her hubris and lack of respect for the gods. She subsequently appears to Peter Parker and the audience as in turn a powerful spider-woman who comes from another time to inspire Peter; an otherworldly lover; a bride; a terrifying (and sexy) dark goddess of vengeance; a dance partner in a charged and violent spiders dance of death; and, finally, a lonely, fragile young woman. Possesses an ethereal, unique, gorgeous singing voice. Strong Celtic, Balkan style, e.g., Sinead O'Connor. Outside the box ideas are welcomed. Could be someone from the music industry.

[NORMAN OSBORN] Male, 50s, Southern. A brilliant scientist deeply devoted to his wife Emily and to the potential of science to improve the world. Always thinking, always tinkering, always talking, he is a dynamo, a folksy whirlwind of energy cut from the same cloth as Ted Turner. An experiment gone wrong mutates him into an unholy terror called the Green Goblin contemptuous of humanity and very much insane. STRONG comic chops and strong character voice.

[J. JONAH JAMESON] Male, 50s. Brash, stubborn, and a throwback from another era, the mustachioed, cigar-chomping, tyrannical publisher of the Daily Bugle is always after the headline that will sell more papers. He is unrelenting in his hatred for Spider-Man, whom he sees as a vigilante and a bane to NYC. Need STRONG comic chops.

[GEEK CHORUS] Three teenage boys and one girl who meet to ritualistically retell the greatest Spider-Man stories. They have encyclopedic knowledge of the last forty years of Spider-Man comic books. They are inveterate role-playing, over-enthusiastic, idealistic, air-guitar-wielding, argumentative, earnest, hyper-serious geeks. Strong comic chops and strong singing voices. Any ethnicity.

Hmmmm.....

Seems like they are not taking it too seriously since they want some actors with "strong comic chops." But who's this "Arachne" chick? Not sure about how that one will work out. And the "Geek Chorus"? Nyuk. Nyuk. I get it. A take off of Greek chorus. The description is sort of insulting to us geeks, ya bastards! I just cant imagine this as a musical. Still, I'm pretty excited about it. I doubt there's any way to get into the official reading, but you know I'm gonna try to find a way! I do have sources in the theater world still. I actually got some lyrics that Bono was throwing around with The Edge. Apparently, they are just writing lyrics to the tunes of some of their own songs. Here's what I got.

(To the tune of "Where the Streets Have No Name")

Peter Parker/Spider-Man: I want to web, I want to swing.

I want to kick Goblin's ass, into the spring.

I want to reach out. And touch MJ.

Where there is no Aunt May. Uh-huh. Where there is no Aunt May. Where there is no Aunt May. She's been dying for 64 years. 64 years. And when she goes. I'll be on my own.

Unless there's a clone.

Not a bad start! Maybe this musical will swing into Broadway after all! Or it'll just prematurely shoot it's webbing and sully the good Spider franchise. Lest we forget, there was the short lived Superman musical. And recently, there was a Batman musical in the works. Just not sure if this will make it past the reading stage.

Until then, my Spidey sense remains....tingling.

Black Adam = Bad Ass

Black_adam_3This is a page from the recent issue of 52 #50. Basic idea is that Black Adam (that's him in the forefront) is insane with grief and rage and starts on a killing spree. If you don't know him, just think Superman level powers (and more!) given from the gods. He's basically a god himself. And this god is kicking all of the heroes collective asses!

Just look at him! Defiant. Standing there with his back to them. Knowing he can take each and every one of them in seconds. Does he care? Nope. He shows no respect or concern for them.

If I were to put a word balloon in there for him it would simply say:

"Kiss my black ass."

And then the next page you would see heroes scattered on the ground with him flying away and saying:

"Bitches."

Big Wednesday

Fooled ya! Thought I was gonna talk about that classic surf film. Which I love. Go see it if you haven't.

I'm talking about the actual day. Wednesday. And the actual adjective. Big. The past 2 Wednesdays have been full of good food, plentiful drink and great camaraderie. I could get used to this. Wednesday could be the new Friday for me! Who's with me?

And like John Landis always had someone say in his movies, "See you next Wednesday."

Fight Club

Southpark_meYou know me. I'm always in a great mood! Every time someone asks me how I'm doing, I reply with, "Awesome!"

Well, yesterday sucked ass. Woke up and didn't sleep well. Got in a fight online. Then, got in a fight with a friend. Then, a fight with a co-worker. Then, a fight with a customer. Then, I get home and had a fight with myself. (At least I won that one. I think.)

I'm over it. Hopefully today will be better and brighter. If not, I'm gonna start kicking everyone in the junk.

For I am.....THE JUNK KICKER!!!
