I fucking hate April Fool's Day. Don't get me wrong. I like a good prank just like the next guy. But it's rare that they are ever any good on April 1st. 99% of April Fool's jokes are idiotic and not clever and far from funny. Yet, most people think they are pulling off the best one ever. On occasion, there are some good ones. Been some gems over the years in the comic book community. Wizard magzine USED to have fun April issues where you had to figure out what was real and what was not. There was always 1 or 2 that were pretty obvious, but kind of funny. A major one they pulled off was involving Stan Lee and his "lost creation" of the character The Sentry. Complete with fake art work! Nope. He never existed. But, it proved so popular that the character made it's way into the regular Marvel Universe. Though it was most likely some grand publicity stunt in the first place.
My good buddy Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night, Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse, Welcome to Hoxford, Fell, etc.) has still got folks talking about the fake cover art he did last year. Gotta say. It's brilliant.
Vampire Jesus? Genius! So crazy it just might work! And like I said, he still gets queries as to when the book is coming out. Well done, sir! Everyone else that tries to do an April Fool's joke today? If it's not as clever as this, then don't do it. You're not funny. You're not clever. And you're not Ben Templesmith. Go shoot yourself and make the rest of us happy.
Excellent! That beats zombie Santa by a long shot.
