Jimmy Aquino on The Daily Alison!

Last week, we had Alison Rosen on Episode 222 of my podcast, Comic News Insider. And if you didn't know, she has her own daily videocast show called The Daily Alison. A 10 minute romp of guest calling fun!  Guess what? She decided to call me today. I suppose she wanted to boost her ratings or something. We chatted about comic books, when I was in the musical Hair, actual hair and a few other things all in a short few minutes. Here I am on Episode 107 of The Daily Alison!

 

Another Funny Jimmy!

In my continuing Anglophile-ness, I have started listening to many more UK comedians. I first saw Jimmy Carr on a talk show or something on BBC America. And I thought, "He funny fella." So, I bought a few of his comedy albums on iTunes. He's one of those "smart" comedians who uses big words yet still manages to be borderline inappropriate. Comedy genius! Well, you be the judge. 

The Surrogates vs. The Surrogates

I was so excited to go see The Surrogates. After all, my new wife, Ella Thomas, has a small role in it! I really loved the comic book series it was based on and knew they had changed quite a bit of it for the film. Boy did they change quite a bit of it. Not necessarily for the worse, but I just don't know if it worked. The pacing was kind of slow and the whole living through robot versions of ourselves as an allegory to the current social networking phenomenon felt forced on occasion. I'm pretty in the middle on it when it comes to recommending. I say go make your own opinion and come back to discuss. 

Or go re-read the comic series. Because that I can definitely recommend.

Let's Not Forget K. Cho!

My pride for my good friend, Michael Emerson, is still going for his Emmy win. However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention the lovely Kristen Chenoweth and her supporting actress in a comedy win as well! As you may or may not know, Kristen (or K. Cho as her publicist said in an email once), has been on my podcast Comic News Insider several times. The awesome Bryan Fuller, creator of Pushing Daisies (the show she won her Emmy for), helped arrange it as he's a frequent guest since his days writing/producing Season 1 of Heroes. 

I met her a few times in person as well. First, was on the set of PD last year. She was so lovely. When I was introduced she said she remembered our interview on the phone. I jokingly said, "No you don't!" She replied with, "Yes, I do! We talked about you seeing me in my first Broadway show, etc". She DID remember! And yes, she's that cute and bubbly in person. It's very sincere too. She genuinely loves people. 

Kudos to you, Kristen! Well deserved. Missed her speech? It was cute as hell. Check it. 

Michael Emerson Wins Another Emmy!

I'm so proud of my good friend, Michael Emerson, for winning the "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama" Emmy for his role as "Ben Linus" in the hit series Lost. That's him and his wife, Carrie Preston ("Arlene" in True Blood) in the picture. As most of you know, I've known Michael since the late 80's when we lived in Jacksonville, Florida. Performing together, building sets, hanging lights, etc. He's been a true friend for almost 20 years. 

This is his second Emmy win. The first coming when he did a guest spot in about 6 episodes of The Practice way back in 2001. He was the only "non-star" in the category that year and still took the trophy home! If you missed the show or his acceptance speech last night, then check it: 

Note the little speech that host Neil Patrick Harris says as Michael is approaching the stage. He mentions " If Michael Emerson weren't on television right now, he'd be in New York City having a fancy cocktail with me." That's sort of a shout out to me! Michael swings into my bar now and then to see me. And NPH himself has visited my fine establishment as well. So, in a way, he was talking about having a drink with Michael at my bar. At least, that's how I will pretend to see it. 

Mad props to my boy for a well deserved win. I saw all sorts of love and kudos coming from friends of mine who know I know him. You know you're friend is famous when YOU get congratulatory messages for him when he wins an Emmy!  Congrats, Michael. We'll celebrate in NYC when you're back! 

Meet The Aquinos

If you listened to the recent Episode 221 of my podcast, Comic News Insider, then you heard us interview the lovely Ella Thomas of the upcoming film The Surrogates. Read a few posts down to learn of our on-air nuptials. Well, she flew into NYC just to see me yesterday. Okay, maybe it was actually for some modeling shoot. But, we got to officially meet and she greeted me with these words. "Here's your mail order bride!" Yes. I heart her muchly.
