As you know, I was on the Jay and Jack 30 Hour Podcast for Autism Speaks at 3am. About 10 hours ago. (See previous post for details). If you don't know Jay and Jack, they have a podcast about the ABC show, Lost. It's hugely successful for a couple of guys who started it out for fun. It was a fun time had by all, especially me. Just like last year, my appearance was delayed about 30 minutes because of a late start by the guests in front of me. The same ones as last year. I'm starting to take this personally! (Just kidding. I love Ryan and Jen, who preceded me.).
The first year I did the charity podcast with them, we picked our Top 10 comic book based movies. Last year, we decided to just wing it and chat. I thought it would be fun to tell stories of my friend Michael Emerson ("Ben Linus" on Lost) from the days before he was famous. As per my M.O. and running joke on my show, the name dropping continued. Suddenly, people in the chat room for the live stream started using my name in title's for episodes, movies, TV shows, etc. Calling me Chuck Norris and so forth. It was hilarious!
This year, we decided to pick our favorite top 10 actors/actresses in comic book based movies. With my reputation preceding me, the chat room had been gearing up for a drinking game with how many names I would drop.
Oh, first, I played a little trick on them. I had been chatting on line with Jay's fiance', Colleen, before I came on. I hatched a prank. I told her to tell them that I was in Hawaii staying with Michael for a few days while he was shooting Lost. And that if they brought it up because she accidentally let it slip, I would be coy about it. Sure enough, they did. I said I was at a "friend's house" in another state. They assumed I meant Michael. I even acted like I was talking to him at one point. At one point, this was in the beginning of our conversation, I thought they knew I was joking. There was a time delay with our call, so lots of echoes added to confusion I guess. Anyway, we proceeded on with our picks.
If you're interested, I had a wide variety of picks. We went backwards from 10 to 1 but I'll go 1 to 10 for you.
- Brandon Lee - The Crow
- Scarlett Johansson - Ghost World (Hold on. What? Well, Jay picked my original #2 for one of his picks. To have a variety, I threw in Scarlett. It was the first time I noticed her as an actress and it was a great film. If there was a top 20 list, she might have made that but in no way was she actually my #2. It was Christopher Reeve in Superman.).
- Jack Nicholson - Batman
- Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight
- Viggo Mortensen - A History of Violence (Ed Harris and Maria Bello were incredible as well.).
- Paul Giamatti - American Splendor
- Brian Blessed/Max Von Sydow - Flash Gordon (I love this film, so threw both of them in there.).
- Angelina Jolie - Wanted
- Ken'ichi Matsuyama - Death Note
- Pamela Anderson - Barb Wire (Got crap for this, but I really like this flick when it came out. Thought it was pretty true to the comic book.).
Throughout my time on, the chat room continued last year's tradition of using my name in titles, etc. We had to stop and laugh several times as people got really clever. (Some examples: The Jimmy Strikes Back, Not Without My Jimmy, Jimmy Jones and the Temple of Doom, etc. A bunch of funnier ones I can't remember, but you get the idea.). And at the end, I realized that Jay and Jack REALLY thought I was in Hawaii at Michael's. Colleen and I revealed our prank and everyone had a big laugh. Mwhahaha.
I ended it with a little quiz. I gave titles of movies and TV shows and had them answer if it was based on a comic book or not. Thought some were tricky but they did pretty well. I told them I'd donate $5 for every one they got right. I made sure they got at least 10 right so I could donate $50. Which I did!
I'm not sure if they'll have any of it up later to hear or not. To be fair, sound was kinda crappy on my end with my cell. But, it was some funny stuff. Glad to help out and be a part of it all! They're still going til 6pm tonight so tune in and give some money to Autism Speaks. Jorge Garcia ("Hurley" on Lost) is their last guest at 4:30pm.
GIVE TIL IT HURTS! And remember:
JIMMY FOR PRESIDENT!
I liked Barb Wire Too.I thought it was fun.
