As per usual, I tend to buy more books at a comic book convention like MoCCA since it's independent/small press stuff. I can get that superhero stuff anywhere! I picked up some great stuff and am starting to read some.
I interviewed the lovely Tory Woollcott about her very first graphic novel called Mirror Mind. All about her growing up with dyslexia. (You can hear that interview on this Tuesday's episode 254 of my podcast, Comic News Insider). And, it was the first book of the stash read. Loved it! I'll admit, my knowledge of dyslexia was limited and I learned a lot reading her comic. Did I mention it's her first? Yeah, she's one of those who stumbled into the comic book profession. Amazing. Do yourself a favor and go buy it. I defy you to not want to buy it after hearing how adorable and enthusiastic she is in the interview.
Another reason I love a show like MoCCA (as well as SPX & TCAF), I tend to discover new cartoonists like Tory. And if I can pimp them out on the show and help sell a few books, then it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Especially if they are as sweet and kind as Tory.
I look forward to diving into my other books soon enough. Stay tuned for more recommendations!
