This is my 2 year old nephew, Maximus. And yes, he's Iron Man. He's already a comic book nerd. Sniff, sniff. Makes an uncle proud.

A year ago, my brother-in-law calls me to tell me my sister has gone into labor. 4 months too early. Less than a foot long and only weighing 1 1/2 lbs. Chloe was ready to emerge whether we were ready for her or not. That first week was tenuous at best as we waited to see how she would respond and indeed, is she would survive. 7 months in hospital and she was finally able to come home. And she is thriving! Look at my beautiful niece!
I will love this little girl more than anything for the rest of my life. Happy Birthday, Chloe! Uncle Jimmy loves you! I look forward to many years of spoiling you.
I went to the Big Apple Con on Saturday at Penn Plaza here in NYC. I'll report on that on tomorrow's recording of my podcast (Comic News Insider) but suffice it to say, it wasn't all that. My one highlight was catching the end of Mary McDonnell's panel. What's the lady from Dances with Wolves doing at a comic convention? For the non-nerdy ones out there, she was in the recent mega-hit reimagined series Battlestar Galactica as President Laura Roslin. She should have won an Emmy several times over but Sci-Fi shows tend to get overlooked in Hollywood for awards.
She gave some great acting advice and talked about wanting to steal most of her wardrobe from the set. Quite funny and engaging. On the way out, we shared the elevator. I remember her leaning into me and kissing me right on the mouth. But there was an elevator full of people who will claim she just talked to us as we rode down. I'll stick with my memory, as false as it may be.
Then again, when I walked through the convention floor, there was a Suicide Girl who said she liked my tie. Tell her I'm at home wearing it. And nothing else. You can tell Mary McDonnell too. Whomever gets here first wins.
New York Comic-Con is this weekend, October 8-10, at the Jacob Javits Center here in NYC. My podcast, Comic News Insider, will again be in the Podcast Arena. Booth #526 to be exact. It's that time again! Comic News Insider will be running it's annual raffle at New York Comic Con, October 8-10, 2010.
Every year CNI works with an organization to help raise funds for their cause. Past groups have included the Get Caught Reading program, Comics In The Classroom, and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund . This year CNI is proud to help Citta and The Project Solution who are working to build a library in a small rural school in India. Currently the students in this primary school have their books stacked on the floor since there is no shelving of any kind to put them on. Rains often cause damage and loss of some of their books. Our funds will help them create shelving in a small space that will become their new library! For more information on these organizations, visit www.citta.org and www.theprojectsolution.org.
