On this Good Friday, I'm reminded of my Catholic upbringing. Okay, not really. But I was waaaaay into my church in my youth. Not Jesus freaky, but I actually liked going to Sunday school and church. I was part of the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) as well. It was very social! I dated a couple of girls from CYO and even had my first real kiss (all tonguey and gooey) at the doorway of the CYO building. No, not with the priest. HEYO!
At one point, I flirted with the idea of being a priest. Only because I heard another guy in class say it. So most likely for attention, I decided to pursue it for a month or 2. Sister Mary Ann was estatic! Then, I realized I couldn't make out with girls if I did and was done with it. (Not realizing that the church would turn a blind eye if I was a priest and made out with boys though. Oh SNAP!).
I did come close to the priesthood though. Years later, I played Peter/Simon (u/s) in Jesus Christ Superstar, Judas in A Passion Play, and finally your lord and savior Jesus in Godspell.
And even years later, I got ordained online through the Universal Life Church and married off my sister to her now hubby. So, in a round about way, I think I finally made Sister Mary Ann proud. Actually, no. She'd probabably call me blasphemous, get me excommunicated and condemn me to hell. But we all know I'll be driving the bus to hell wearing gasoline boxers.
All aboard!
p.s. If you're actually interested in helping people in the Christian tradition (unlike me), check out a degree in counseling! Tell 'em I sent ya. Your reward will be in heaven since I ain't got nuttin' to give ya!
