I attended Boston Comic Con on Sunday and all I got in return was this blog post! Well, that's not true. Wanna hear about it though? Thought so.
After working really late Saturday, literally not sleeping a wink and barely catching the bus at 7am...I made it to Boston around 11am and went straight to the convention center. Representing my podcast, COMIC NEWS INSIDER, of course. My first thought was that it was a great location in the heart of downtown. I've never been to Boston before so assumed that was the heart of downtown.
As I entered the convention center, it was quite nice. Good set up and very spacious. Good feng shui of cartoonists and retailers alike! Nice array of big name cartoonists like Neal Adams, Darwyn Cooke, David Mack, Tim Sale, Stan Sakai, Matt Wagner and others as well. I immediately went to my pal Ming Doyle's table to check in with her and chat for a minute. Then, it was on to my walkabout. I slowly walked around and checked the show out. I met some really great cartoonists in artist alley and picked up quite a few books. Thanks to those who gave me books as well. I will do my best to review them on the show!
Alas, I didn't get any interviews nor attend any panels as I was there for a short time and was pretty beat. As mentioned, great location for eats/drinks. I went and found a great spot called Sonsie and had lunch at the bar. Really awesome place! After returning to the con, I found an area to charge my phone & read a few comics.
Back in the con, I did another walkabout and picked up a few more comics. Chatted with more cartoonists as it was about time to end the show. Though I was only there briefly, I think it's a great show and is growing nicely for a young show. I definitely want to attend all weekend next year so I can really enjoy it.
Post-con, I went back to Ming's crib with her friends for some relaxing beverages. Lovely ending to the con! I soon headed out to meet up with my old friend Kerri whom I was staying with overnight. Great time catching up. Thanks for the dinner and breakfast and all around hostess-age, Kerri!
Next day, it was back to Ming's to record Episode 328 of Comic News Insider! Ming and her friend, Alexa Rose, host a fledgling podcast of their own called Make Believers. It's fantastic, so give it a listen! I had them both guest co-host and we did a great Boston Comic Con recap. That episode should be up later tonight, so tune in!
Boston Comic Con is at a great time of year as well. So, get your date books out for next year's show and hopefully I'll see you there!
