Nerd Robes at the Robe Factory!

During preview night at San Diego Comic-Con, one of the first things that caught my eye were the nerdy robes you see above. I wanted to buy about 10 of them. Okay, all of them. 

I came to my senses and just grabbed a card. If I remember correctly, the price was around $50 or $60? Really awesome stuff and they felt so comfortable! Check 'em out for yourself at Robe Factory and Robe Show. While you're there, you can buy me the Darth Vader w/ hoody and Batman ones. Thanks!

SDCC Recovery

I got back from SDCC and the short jaunt to L.A. late Wednesday night. I am still playing catch up and recovering. So please forgive if I don't get back to you promptly. I still gots mad nerd love for you! 

Besides, me and Luke Skywalker up there are busy training. I'm his new padawan.

Post-SDCC: Jimmy Aquino Takes L.A.

I left San Diego Monday morning and took the train to L.A. I wasn't feeling that great due to some bad food and lack of sleep. I was staying with my friend and got picked up at the station by her husband. A quick disco nap and it was off to meet up with last year's crash pad, Stacey. We went to see our mutual pal Brea Grant introduce the screening of her indie film, Homecoming. Brea was fantastic in it, natch. Due to my lack of feeling great, I got home relatively early. The plan was to do Disney first thing in the morning. 

That didn't happen. We all decided to sleep in and just relax. I had a set visit to G4 at 4pm and interviews with the Attack of the Show hosts Kevin Pereira and Candace Bailey after. I got to the studio and immediately ran into Blair Butler. She's a frequent podcast guest and has become a pal. She and G4 publicist Kelly took me into the studio and introduced me to everyone. I even got to meet some other on-air talent like Sara Underwood and Chris Gore. The show is fun to watch live and I had a blast. Post-show, the chat with Kevin and Candace was just silly and fun. We hit a couple of serious moments talking about Comic-Con but for the most part it was totally laid back. Candace is really fitting in well as the new co-host and is quite likeable. She gave me a big ol' hug upon greeting and departing. (We met at the convention for a minute when I was at the G4 booth interviewing Blair). 

Back to Becky's to record the show and then it was off to finally see Captain America! Which totally rocked! I had tentative plans to meet up with friends but didn't follow through as I was just beat. Next time I'll have to take an extra day in L.A. just to see everyone and hit a few other spots. 

Great relaxing end to a crazy week in San Diego. Back to reality and NYC on Wednesday night! 

San Diego Comic-Con: Day 6

Sunday is the final day of the con and a bit chill. I only had the one press room and was able to walk the floor a bit. Highlights, yo. 

• First and only press room of the day was for the Young Justice Cartoon. I was running a bit behind but caught the end of chatting with producer Brandon Vietti and art director Phil Bourassa. And then we got the lovely Danica McKellar (voice of "Miss Martian" on YJ). Winnie Cooper is all growed up! Really sweet and adorable. Don't believe me? See?

• I then had the rest of the day to roam the convention floor which I hadn't done since preview night. I had planned on getting a few interviews on the floor that day but it didn't work out as some folks were just too busy or had to leave early. I did manage to get a couple including Javier Grillo-Marxuach and Joyce Brabner (wife of the late Harvey Pekar). Said good-bye to some friends and made a few new ones as well. I do wish they'd leave the hall open until 6pm instead of 5 on Sundays. 

• Back to the hotel to chill a bit and then some dinner at Nobu. (Told you...I'm addicted!). We're heading off to the Dead Dog party soon but then I get a text from Jonathan Ross. If you remember, I met him in London last year when he invited me to his chat show and home for an interview. We've stayed in touch and tried to get together over the week. Both just too busy. So he asks if I want to meet at his hotel for a drink. Cass and I head over and have a ball nerding out with him for about 2 hours. I wish I could have recorded our convos but if I did that all of the time, then I wouldn't have friends. Ha! I did pull the recorder out for about 5 minutes just to chat with him about his comic book work. 
• Off to the Dead Dog party where I saw many friends relaxing and unwinding. Some I hadn't seen during the entire show because of busy schedules. A fine ending to a crazy week. 
• Back to the hotel. I'm off to L.A. for a few days after. A ridiculously busy but super fun time at Comic-Con. Another successful year down! Apologies if I left anyone out. I know I just skimmed over things. Just too many to mention. Can't wait until next year! 

San Diego Comic-Con: Day 5

Again, S-L-O-W wi-fi at the Hard Rock, so I'll upload pics later. Saturday was my busiest day by far. MOST interviews were off-site which made it challenging to make the ones close in time. Here are the day 5 highlights.

• I've had some friends be correspondents for my podcast, COMIC NEWS INSIDER. Mad props to Maria Bernal-Silva, Melissa Bleier and Megan Fischer. My "M" girls! So thankful! 
• My first roundtable was for the BBC America show, Bedlam. Series star Theo James and showrunner/creator David Allison were in attendance. Didn't know much about the show but sounds really interesting. We had fun with the guys and cracked some jokes. You know I loves me some BBC America! 
• Quick lunch at Nobu (clearly addicted now) and then off to interview Warehouse 13 star, Saul Rubinek. Lovely chap and it was a real honor chatting with him. 
• Back to the Marriot for interviews with the cast of Sushi Girl. A new grindhouse style film starring a cornucopia of cult movie stars. I chatted with them in 2's. First up was the legendary Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hammill, along with former kid star from The Never Ending Story, Noah Hathaway. Mark was very chatty and seemed genuinely enthused by this project. 
• Next up was Candyman himself, Tony Todd, along with new director Kern Saxton. Todd has such a commanding voice and studied classic theater. He brought up the playwright August Wilson and was surprised I knew whom he was talking about. We briefly chatted NYC theater and even as they left, he and I kept talking about NYC itself! 
• Then I got "Sushi Girl" herself Cortney Palm and Andy MacKenzie. Quickly followed by David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight) and James Duvall. All lovely people and very excited to work on this project. Gotta admit, they got me pumped to see it as well. As should you be! 
• I then had to rush WAY off-site to meet up with Kevin Michael Richardson, voice over artist extraordinaire. Hit up his IMDB page. Way too many to mention. It was brief but fun as he kept breaking into voices. 
• Then, a big hike back to the Bayfront Hilton to take place in the press conference for The Knights of Badassdom. A horror/comedy film focusing on the LARPing community. Great cast and most were in attendance including Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Summer Glau (Firefly, Sarah Connor Chronicles), Danny Pudi (Community), Margarita Levieva (Adventureland), Jimmie Simpson (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and director Joe Lynch. Some of you may know, that I've known Summer for quite a few years (through mutual friends). By no means are we good pals. I texted her to let her know I would be in the room. When she came in, she saw me and came over and gave me a big ol' hug! I think people were wondering what was up and perhaps a bit jealous. Sorry, kids! Fun press conference and the cast seemed to get along swimmingly. When it ended, Summer and I had a nice chat, took a pic and walked out together. She's always so sweet to me. See? 
• I then rushed off to the last press room for the day. Person of Interest starring my old pal Michael Emerson. Also starring Jim Cavaziel and Taraji P. Henson. I LOVES me some Taraji and told her that the John Singleton film she starred in, Baby Boy, is a favorite movie (which it is) and she was so surprised. Especially when I quoted it. Michael was awesome, of course. And lastly, Cavaziel wasn't what I expected. He talked about his athleticism and kept making sports metaphors. This show looks really good and I'm not just saying that because I'm friends with one of the leads. For reals, yo.
• I had planned on heading back to the hotel for the usual disco nap. But I didn't have much time to chill. Met John and Brett for steaks. Oh yeah, I had met the doctors of Broadcast Thought yesterday and a couple of them swung by and had a drink with me at the bar. Great guys! 
• We hit Trickster after dinner and it was rocking! What a fantastic idea, the whole Trickster idea. We had a blast and chatted with many friends. Off to the Hyatt after. My friends Brea Grant, Todd Stashwick and Deric Hughes said they were throwing a party there. I kept making fun as it's where everyone goes anyway. But, Brea decided to bring people up to the 2nd floor where they don't usually let us hang out. Alas, they left her alone and by the time I got there, many folks were hanging and drinking! #SlamCon was in effect! 

Late night but lotsa fun. Off to slumber and then it's the last day of SDCC! 

San Diego Comic-Con: Day 4

This day was a bit clusterfucky but I had many great moments as well! Here come them highlights! 

• Up late the night before, so got a late start. My first interviews were the roundtables for Spartacus: Vengeance. Lucy Lawless is flawless. So stunning and super sweet. The new Spartacus, Liam McIntyre was humble, respectul and excited about taking over the role from the original actor Andy Whitfield. (Whom could not continue due to cancer). 

• Katrina Law is just lovely. She plays "Mira". I had looked her up previously. She has a stand up routine on her site which is really funny! And her humor came across during the roundtables. Just adorable. 
• We stayed in the same room for the Torchwood roundtables. I had the talent sitting right next to me the whole time. Needless to say, I was quite happy.
• Great chats with new cast members Bill Pullman, Mekhi Phifer, and Alexa Havins. Writer Jane Espenson as well. Talking to John Barrowman and Eve Myles was quite special as they have been with the show for years. I complimented Eve on her acting and magnetic screen presence. She seemed genuinely touched and said, "Come here, you!" And gave me a big ol' hug! Just lovely. 
• Off to the Fright Night remake press room. Uh-oh! No one told me it was just a press conference and not roundtables. Lame. Star Colin Farrell could only stay for about 10 minutes but the rest of the cast stayed. I ended up leaving shortly after Colin as it was just a bit chaotic. 
• Bit of time until my next one, so joined Cassaday for a quick small bite at Nobu. The doctors of Broadcast Thought came by to say "Hi". I interviewed them last year and they are just fascinating! Hoping to grab a drink with them tomorrow. 
• Then it was time to run upstairs to interview Jason Momoa. The new Conan the Barbarian (and former Khal Drogo). Again, unsure how this was to be set up. I got the impression it might be roundtables but alas, no. Small press conference. Only about 5 questions were asked (I got one in) and he was rushed out after only 10 minutes or so. He was very funny and charming. Last question, someone asked if he was proud to be an Asian Pacific Islander (like me!). Some older Japanese guy was chomping down on the free snacks at the table and literally shouts out, "WHAT ARE YOU?!". Momoa made fun of him and we all cracked up. Really funny, weird moment. 
• I then ran off to interview Paula Rhodes and cast of the Elfquest fan imagination film. She is so adorable as were the other girls. I want to hang out with the 5'2" and Under club! 
• Chill for a bit in the room and then got to do a nice quiet dinner with my pal Michael Emerson. Good steak and wine! As we walked out, Michael got mobbed on the street just trying to walk a few blocks. I kept messing with the fans and asked why they didn't want MY picture. They all found it funny and one even offered. So cute. 
• I went off to the Warner Bros/DC party for a bit and got to chat with friend Amanda Conner for a bit. Then, it was off to Trickster for a few minutes and the Hyatt. Then the Nerd party where I ran into old NYC pal and now LA gal, Alison Rosen. Back to the Hyatt for more. 
• Great news starting coming in from the Eisner awards. Pals John Layman won for Chew and Gabriel Ba/Fabio Moon won for Daytripper among others. So happy and proud for them! 
• Saw way too many people to mention. Sorry if I left you out! Fun times!

San Diego Comic-Con: Day 3

The REAL madness begins. Highlights.

• First press room of the day is a clusterfuck. It's the Deadliest Warrior: Zombies vs Werewolves. Wes Craven had dropped out at the last minute but I was hoping to chat with Max Brooks a bit. For some reaso, they decided to do the step and repeat style interviews even though there were many print/audio media folks in there. I got frustrated and just took off as it was unorganized. Not a good start. 
• I checked out the press oasis at the Omni hotel. Free sammies and soda! Woo hoo! 
• Time for the Ringer panel. It's Sarah Michelle Gellar's return to TV and if you didn't know, I'm a massive Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan. Needless to say, I was excited for this. We first chatted with the producers about it. Then Nestor Carbonell sat with us soon to be joined by Sarah Michelle herself. She be lovely. See?

• We also chatted with Ioan Gruffudd and Kristoffer Polaha who star in the series along with Sarah Michelle and Nestor. Charming guys and this series is looking to be fun! 
• Back to chill a bit in the hotel and then it's time for the annual podcaster's panel. Really great turnout and I had fun! 
• I got an email from a manager I know asking if I'd interview her client, Lili Bordan. Lili is starring in the upcoming Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome pilot that will hopefully be turned into a series. She was adorable! She said, "You're my new friend here so we should hang out!" So sweet. 

• I had to run off to the G4 booth to have my annual chat with Blair Butler. For old loyal listeners of my podcast, you remember she used to come on our show frequently. As I was awaiting her, I was atop the G4 tower overlooking the sea of nerds! Pretty great view. I chatted with Attack of the Show host Kevin Pereira whom I've interviewed several times in the past. He introduced me to new co-host Candace Bailey who was adorably dressed in a Supergirl outfit. As expected, amazing chat with Blair. It was quite loud but hopefully we got some good stuff for you all! Blair is so sweet and loves chatting on our show when she can. 

• Back to the room for some relaxation. Good buddy Brett Matthews drove into town so we joined best pal John Cassaday for some eats at Nobu. We saw and chatted with Marvel top man and friend CB Cebulski for a bit. 

CB is always a gentleman and we had a great time! His friend had her back to me and was chatting to others so I didn't realize who it was until later. Hello Jewel Staite! If you don't know who she is, well...she's awesome. She's best known for playing "Kaylee" on TV show Firefly and movie follow-up Serenity. Just plain lovely. 

• Amazing meal at Nobu. I had actually never eaten at one before. We may do lunch there! 
• Off to the CBLDF party at the Westgate hotel. Really great turnout this year! Ran into way too many people that I know. All good. Had a lovely chat with the amazing artist, Camilla D'Errico. Look her up. You can thank me after. Her art is amazing! 

• Party ends and we head off to the Hyatt where all Comic-Con evenings end. More friends. More drinks. Good times. 

• Great end to an awesome day! Friday is a big interview day and more friends arriving. Can't wait!
