Happy Rosh Hashanah! I once played "Jesus" in Godspell so that makes me an honorary Jew. My friend Kerri dubbed me one years ago when I went home with her for Passover. You can read about that here.

Hint: Don't google "How to play your own shofar" because you will NOT get the results you expect .
Last night, I attended a taping of the new BBC America comedy panel show, Would You Rather, as hosted by Graham Norton. Basic idea, is that the host presents a question like: "Would you rather eat dog food or cat food?" (My sample question was very tame compared to the questions actually asked). And then the panelists talk about which choice they'd make. Graham randomly gives out "points" for winning the round. Though the points ultimately mean nothing. It's just for funsies!
It's being shot here in NYC and is part of BBC America's new "Ministry of Laughs" line up. Of course, the Anglophile in me is happy for all the shows being brought over by the Beeb. And this original programming is interesting. But, it had an All-American panel and no Brits. Still, it was led by Stanley Tucci and Scott Adsit. They were awesome and everyone was really funny. (Panel rotates per show). I didn't recognize the other 2 panelists. Norton is very funny as host and keeps it together. I believe it debuts some time over the next few months.
They recorded 2 shows while we were there. I believe it was shows 4 and 5 so look for me in the audience! Or maybe Graham will realize my comic genius and ask me to be on the panel.

Yep. That's me with Alie & Georgia last night! They were part of the show Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen at Littlefield's in Brooklyn. Kristen being Kristen Schaal of Flight of the Conchords/The Daily Show fame. She's hilarious! My pal Grace (it's her birthday today so go wish her happy) and I attended and thought the show was great. Alie & Georgia killed it with their drink making and cute/witty banter. They are co-hosting my podcast Comic News Insider with me tonight! And I've got a couple of surprises in store for them. Georgia is worried I may have one of her ex-boyfriends show up. Don't tell her I'm actually having her long lost kids attend. I don't think she knows about them. Well, to be fair, she was the inspiration for that show I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant.

I finally watched the series premiere of the new CBS drama, Person of Interest,starring Jim Cavaziel, Michael Emerson and Taraji P. Henson. As most of you know, Emerson is an old pal of mine. (I'll say it again, it's not name dropping if you're ACTUALLY friends with the person, ya mooks). It's tough to watch something a friend is in and be objective. So here goes.
It was the bestest most wonderfulest thing in the whole world ever!
Okay, maybe not. But, I did like it. Some minor spoilers. I did feel the beginning moved a bit fast with Cavaziel's character agreeing to work for Emerson's character. Just seemed a bit rushed but it had to happen to move the story along. Cavaziel was seemingly a street bum (with a horrible beard that just must have been fake) but we soon find out he was ex-military badass/martial arts/weapons expert type. Cavaziel is a surprising reluctant action hero. He plays it with subtlety and menace. Emerson is natural as the smart and calculated billionaire out to help the world. But things aren't always in his control which makes for an intriguing character. A man who wants to be in control, but can't. Henson, whom I love, wasn't really featured much in the premiere. It's established that she has Cavaziel's character on her radar and that's about it.
Oh, as for the plot? Well, Emerson's character created some mega super computer machine for the government after 9/11 to help prevent terrorism before it happens. He discovered it also helped prevent crime so he built himself a backdoor into the system. With his billions, he hires Cavaziel's character to take down the bad guys.
As with a lot of premieres, there was a much set up involved. Still, I found it entertaining and will definitely be back for more. Sure, Michael being in it was why I initially tuned in, but the story has promise and I look forward to see what future episodes bring.
I really dig that Rob McElhenny, series star/creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, gained 50 lbs for the new season 7. Just to shake things up! I somehow missed this news back in August so when the new season premiered on Thursday, I just assumed it was a fine make up job by the IASIP crew. And figured he'd be back in fighting shape by the next episode. You know, how they made Lee "Apollo" Adama fat for a few episodes of Battlestar Galactica and then he was miraculously back in shape after a jump rope montage.
If you don't watch IASIP (one of the best comedies ever), WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!! Sorry...I meant, if you don't watch it, then you don't know that Rob is normally quite fit. Like this.
The fact that he chose to gain 50 lbs to for the love of his own show and to make it even better and funnier is gutsy, imaginative and hilarious! Kudos to you, Rob!
I'm going to tell everyone that the reason I'm a chub rock is just because I'm trying to make the sitcom that is my life better. Sure, MY season 7 has been going on for about 6-7 years now, but we all have our own process. AMIRITE?
If you don't know, well I'm here to tell you. I am a huge Christmas nerd. Favorite time of year and all that. Every year people complain that it "comes too early". In the U.S., I'll admit it does start creeping out early. I think once Thanksgiving hits then it's fair game. But if before? I don't mind. Though some are quite adamant in their hatred. I still say it's not a big deal unless you are the character Phoebe Cates played in "Gremlins".
That being said, the following is for both Xmas lovers and haters. My pal and awesome cartoonist, Jamie Smart, tweeted a link to these cute little videos the other day. A little info on the UK based video creators:

Thursday is super big happy fun time comedy night on TV! Not just the NBC ones. My favorite pictured above, Community. New seasons have started up so it's lotsa comedy watching for this laughing boy. Besides the pictured fave, Parks and Recreation and The Office are back and I'm digging the new Whitney. And hate all you want, I'm still loving me some Big Bang Theory. Let's not forget the 2 big FX ones. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Archer are consistently just wrong and hilarious.
If you need to reach me on a Thursday, it better be for some hilarious reason! If I'm not laughing by the end of your message then I will be forced to mock you openly in public and cause myself to laugh. You've been warned.

Got a big IKEA delivery and started assembling with a friend. I'm convinced that an evil cartoonist makes all the drawings to confuse you on purpose. And look how happy the little cartoon guy is to call IKEA for help. I've a feeling the caller would look more like this.
