If you know me, then you know one of my favorite shows in years is the cult hit NBC comedy, Community. Well written, excellent cast and just so damn funny. But, it's one of those that can be too clever for it's own good and dare I say "too smart" for the masses. It appeals to nerds like me as the plots can deal with Dungeons and Dragons, zombies and sci-fi.
This week it was announced that NBC was "shelving" the comedy. Not cancelling it outright. Insiders say it should get a 4th season but perhaps a smaller episode order and relegated to another night. It's currently on Thursdays but is being moved to make room for the returning 30 Rock. People are outraged, of course. But the numbers just aren't there. As much as everyone seems to hate the new comedy Whitney, it's getting good numbers. Much better than Community.
Alas, here's hoping it finally starts getting some numbers and recognition as well. It really is one of the best shows on TV at the moment. I know there are some "Save Community" petitions out there but not sure which is best or if they'll make a difference. Meanwhile, go buy the DVDS of Seasons 1 and 2 and you can thank me after you recover from laughing so hard. Do it.
