I know nothing about the upcoming film, The Hunger Games. Except that it's based on a popular book series. In the book, the Hunger Games are an annual televised event where the government chooses one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of 12 districts for a massive televised battle in which only one person can survive. They just released the trailer and I really liked it. Check it.
Looks pretty awesome, right?
Now, the first thing I thought of was that it reminded me a bit of the hit Japanese cult film, Battle Royale. I know I'm not the first or only one to think this. Also based on a hit, albeit controversial book, it centers on the Japanese government randomly selecting a school class and placing them in a tournament where only one can survive. I love this film!
Super violent. I probably should have mentioned that before you watched the trailer.
I talked to some friends who have read The Hunger Games books and say it's barely like Battle Royale. Okay, then it's sort of The Lottery meets Lord of the Flies then? Just goes to show you kids, there are no more original ideas out there. Everything is inspired/influenced by something else. And that's okay! It doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the film! Are you?
Hey Jimmy,
It's Liz aka NYCPrincess! Too bad you don't read books without pictures. The book trilogy is awesome. I'm genuinely impressed with the trailer. I actually recognize every single second of that trailer from the first book.
May the odds ever be in your favor!
