As you all know, I host the weekly podcast COMIC NEWS INSIDER. If you didn't, hey...what's wrong with you? Since April 2005, we have interviewed all sorts of people in the comic book/TV/film biz as well as other genres like stars of the interwebs and even musicians. Mostly, they have some relation to something nerdy be it a comic book, sci-fi show or what not. On occasion, not at all. But that is the exception and not the rule.
That being said, while we are known for some of the more famous celebrity types we have on and dropping their names has become a running gag, we also champion the smaller stuff. Especially when it comes to the comic book world. I LOVE chatting with small press/indie cartoonists about their work! Obviously, it's great to talk to Jim Lee or Darwyn Cooke or Paul Pope and others. But, when I talk to someone who is just starting out or struggling to get their name out there, it's really great to "discover" them along with the audience.
What's great is that we've covered SO many of the smaller names in the business. And many have become bigger names over the years. Funny though that I was recently accused of only wanting to cover the bigger names. So untrue. And if you check out our "Guests/Interviews" page then you'll see the wide variety we've gotten over the years.
And just this week, I got an email from a loyal listener who wanted me to interview an up and coming artist that he admires. She's going to be at New York Comic Con and thought it would be a perfect time to chat with her. I've never heard of her and don't know her work at all but told him I was open to it and we should try to set it up.
That being said...who wants an interview?! Of course, I can't interview everyone nor do I have the time. But I am open to interviewing most. When it comes to comic books, I'd rather be more familiar with their work so the conversation can run smoothly and I'm not just asking standard questions. (Makes for a better interview). I've certainly said "no" to some requests mostly because the PR email I got was just cold and impersonal or outright silly on occasion. And if people just stop by the table at NYCC and ask for an interview, I tend to hold off until I know a bit more. Still, on occasion I will!
One thing I like to do at conventions, is just walk around and see what strikes me. If I really like what I see, I may want to do an interview even though I don't know much about the work. And even on occasion, I'll pick up the book, read a bit of it that night and then come back the next day to do an interview.
So, as you see...no real rhyme or reason to it all! I just wanted people to know that I'm open to interviewing almost anyone! So feel free to contact me about it. No promises and schedule is SOOOOOOOOO busy lately but just wanted to put it out there. Unfortunately, not set up to do phoners for awhile either.
